Ebbertt Overnight 2 & 3 October
Our annual overnight tent trip to Indiana has expanded: Ebbertt is now offering teambuilding and leadership scenarios on Friday, so we leave before school starts, at approximately 0700 (time varies depending on school). We will stay overnight Friday and return late Saturday. Volunteers will miss all of their Friday classes. Activities include Zip line, orienteering (map reading) and canoeing. (Zip is optional; canoeing and orienteering mandatory). Cost is $35 for food, tents, and events (not including Zip Line and Swing). Money and forms are due 23rd. We have more cadets signed up than we have room for...so don't forget to get your money and forms in on time!!!!
Orienteering 27 Sep
We will depart WHS at 0900 to participate in Orienteering at Deer Grove with the Chicago Area Orienteering Club. Cadets can also meet at Deer Grove Forest Preserve at 0930.
Cadet in Charge
If you are a Cadet in Charge of an event, you are reminded of your duties which always includes an After Action Report. See Cadet in Charge Duties and After Action Report.
Color Guard Presentation Team(s) and Commander
Due to the large demand for Color Guard teams, and our
desire to ensure our Color presentations are professional and appropriate, we
will have a Color Guard Presentation Team members designated with a special
Color Guard Shoulder Cord. There will be one overall commander (with a
commander's shoulder cord) and (we hope) at least one team member at each
school. To earn the cord, you must demonstrate a knowledge of Color
presentations and flag etiquette, and demonstrate an ability to organize, train,
and successfully perform color guards with cadets who are NOT Presentation Team
members, and demonstrate a willingness to participate in color guards. The idea
is that we hope all cadets earn the Color Guard ribbon by performing three color
guard events....but those cadets who demonstrate a higher dedication to Color
Guard would be further recognized with the shoulder cord. Cadets will retain the
color guard as long as they are active in organizing and performing. Cadets who
are deemed to no longer be active Presentation Team members will lose the right
to wear the cord.

Past member shave earned gone on to earn their private pilots license, get engineering degrees, and even attend the USAF Academy. Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Monday (varies in summer) of each month at Windy City Flyers between1930 and 2100, 1098 South Milwaukee Ave, Suite 301. Check out their website for more details: www.AvExp9.org.
ACTs...And Earn the Academic Ribbon!
NS2/3s: Don't forget: You must complete (and make an honest effort on) the pre-tests or lose a grade on the term (it counts as your homework!!!!) See how you're progressing: ACT Progress. Remember, the percent correct and your effort are recorded along with your completion date). You do not need to do the lessons but its highly recommended (and you must do the entire program to get the ribbon).
Parents: you can log on for more information, including percent correct, review progress, and recommended study.
The NJROTC has paid for a stand-alone program to help cadets with test-taking strategies for ACT/SAT and other standardized tests (No child left behind included). There is no cost, but because the motivation for cadets to complete the course seems to be tied to guardian and instructor involvement, there is a notification letter for guardians and instructors will have access to cadet accounts. CADETS WHO COMPLETE THE PREP COURSE WILL EARN THE ACADEMIC RIBBON! Cadets can register for ACT or SAT (not both). We recommend ACT unless you're already taking ACT prep courses and you want to check out the SAT (used mostly by colleges on the East and West coasts). Register at http://jrotccollegeprep.com. Note: You can use both test sites (Army and NJROTC) to prepare for both ACTs and SATs.
