Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) OSHKOSH AIRSHOW 29 July
We will meet WHS at 1130 on 29 July and take a mini-bus to Oshkosh WI for the annual EAA exhibit and air show. There will be plenty of walking around, trying our hand at a flight simulator, and watching one of the best air displays around. We won’t be back until after 2000 (8pm) probably close to 2100 (9pm). Bring a water bottle!! Eat lunch before you go, but we’ll stop for a snack before and after the air show. Admission is $20.00 for students, plus you’ll need money for snack & dinner money (and don’t forget souvenirs).
Note: We know of Bartlett, Basantes, Galivan, Garcia, Jacobs, Lark, Logan, Mancilla, Martinez, Siebert (maybe?), Schaum, & Schaum. Call the office 847-718-7116 ASAP if we missed your name or you want to go!!!!
Freshman Cadet Orientation/Indoctrination ('Indoc')
Freshman indoctrination is a voluntary program to jump start new cadets into NJROTC. New cadets are provided information, issued uniforms and given basic military instruction. Freshman Indoc runs Aug 3rd, 4th and 5th, 0800 – 1500. During Indoc and on 3 Aug, freshman will participate in marksmanship training from 1130 – 1430. Rifle team members should assist and contact LCDR Morse. Freshman, cadet mentors and cadet staff will meet their school’s cadet representative or a designated cadet in front of each school. Attendance is not mandatory, and cadets need not attend everyday or all day. Freshman who attend will normally advance in rank and are usually able to assist other new cadets in the fall. Incoming freshman should RSVP at 847-718-7116 with a phone message on your attendance plans.
EAA 'Young Eagle' flights and US Coast Guard Picnic 7 Aug
On 7 August, we will take a mini-bus to the Waukegan Airport to honor the USCG Helicopter Detachment & perform a Color Guard for the USCG Birthday. We are coordinating 'Young Eagle' flights for cadets. It may be possible that siblings will also get an opportunity to ride if parents bring them to the airport....but details are still to be determined. Times are still TBD, but plan on leaving WHS a 0915.
Chicago Air and Water Show/Blue Angel Breakfast 13 Aug
On 13 August, selected cadets will be able to eat breakfast at the Union Club with the Blue Angles, then (after changing out of uniform clothes) head to the beach to join the other cadets for the Chicago Air & Water Show practice. Cadets who participate in the July 5 parade will have priority for the breakfast, but the total number able to attend the breakfast is unknown at this time. Cadets going to the breakfast will meet approximately 0700 at WHS.
The staff has decided NOT to take the train (too much coordination) but instead to leave WHS a 0900. Return will be between 5 and 6pm. $6 for sub sandwiches and drink for both groups (Navy league is paying for breakfast). Cadets going to breakfast will wear summer white uniform or appropriate ‘Union Club’ civilian wear (collar shirt, no shorts) if not issued a uniform. All cadets will wear NJROTC T-shirt and appropriate beachwear at the airshow. ‘Prospective’ students can attend on a ‘space available’ basis. Call to reserve a spot.
EAA 'Young Eagle' Glider Flights 14 Aug
Still in the planning stage, but we hope to arrange glider flights for cadets on 14 Aug. Stay tuned for details.......
Cadet In Charge:
If you are a Cadet in Charge of an event, you are reminded of your duties which always includes an After Action Report. See Cadet in Charge Duties and After Action Report..
.
Uniform Policy.
Wearing the correct uniform ALL DAY on uniform day is always required, and it does count towards your grades. Still, we have many cadets who wear the uniform only to the night class. Effective immediately, cadets who don't wear their uniform when required will not be eligible for any 'good deal' trips and competitions for 30 days. When NJROTC sweats/T-shirts are prescribed, the unit T-shirt is required.
ACT Preparation Available FREE
|
The NJROTC has paid for a stand-alone program to help cadets with test-taking strategies for ACT/SAT and other standardized tests (No child left behind included). There is no cost, but because the motivation for cadets to complete the course seems to be tied to guardian and instructor involvement, there is a notification letter for guardians and instructors will have access to cadet accounts. CADETS WHO COMPLETE THE PREP COURSE WILL EARN THE ACADEMIC RIBBON! Cadets can register for ACT or SAT (not both). We recommend ACT unless you're already taking ACT prep courses and you want to check out the SAT (used mostly by colleges on the East and West coasts). Register at http://jrotccollegeprep.com. |
